Happy World Breastfeeding Week

Happy #worldbreastfeedingweek

This was taken on L’s first summit when he’d just turned 4 months old. Now we’re 4 days away from reaching 1 year of our breastfeeding journey

I’m so thankful I’ve been able to breastfeed. It’s been a beautiful experience and one that’s brought so much joy. The value of breastfeeding doesn’t stop at basic nutrition. Breastmilk provides vitamins and minerals, important antibodies that help fight off bugs, beneficial enzymes, hormones, and more. It attunes and adapts to exactly what your baby needs, comforts and soothes baby and provides numerous benefits to mum too. It’s pretty magic

But while it might be the biological norm, it’s also a privilege and one that requires time and attention, as well as the right information, love and support - not pressure. Equally, breastfeeding isn’t the only way to nourish your baby and no mum should be made to feel like a failure if they struggle to breastfeed, combi-feed, dreamt of breastfeeding but couldn’t, or opt not to.

Every breastfeeding story is different. Let’s support parents, whatever their journey looks like and continue to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
