Sutton Who?

I remember first visiting Sutton Hoo with my family as a young child in the mid 90s - around the time the National Trust took over - and seeing some of the skeletal remains before they covered the excavated burial mounds back up. I found it fascinating then and still do. It’s one of the fondest memories I have of my Grandad being there, too. The site has changed a lot since then, with the burial mounds back in place, plenty of educational material, and a tall (nice and clanky!) view tower to climb up and get a better look at them all. I’m sure there’s something new every time we go! Tranmer House is often open to look around, with activities happening throughout the year. There’s the High Hall exhibition where you can discover all about Anglo-Saxon history and discoveries at the site, plus a cafe, bookshop & shop stocked with lots of terrific gifts, including lots of nature-themed ideas for children, plus a play area which I think is being expanded or improved soon too.

And if you love a good walk? Well there are tons of stunning walks around here, including some special trails to keep toddlers and children entertained.

History, walks, activities, food & drink. What’s not to love here?

We spent a gorgeous afternoon with Nanna and forgot to pack the baby carrier, so our arms were well and truly aching from carrying Leo by the end! All the more excuse for a giant slab of cake though. Oh yes, I mean slab, not slice.
