First Mother’s Day

Yesterday was my first Mother’s Day as a mum and while the clocks turning forward felt a bit of a piss take 😅, it was such a special day. I felt thoroughly spoilt with such funny and sentimental surprises.

In the afternoon we visited my Nan’s house, Leo’s Great Nan. Some places hold a special place in your heart and this is one of them for me. When I was Leo’s age and for the first few years of my life, this was our home. At first we lived here, and after we moved out, my nan and grandad would look after me on weekdays while my mum went to work.

One thing I’ve always loved is their garden. Season to season, flowers would bloom, fruits and vegetables too. In spring and summer daffodils, forget-me-nots and other blooms burst with colour, daisies and buttercups set up picnic on the lawn, and the giant oak tree springs to life with the enchanting path circling it.🌳 Bees buzz, birds bustle about the feeders, hedgehogs & squirrels scurry, and bats rock up in the evening. It’s a real nature’s haven.

My grandad died 17 years ago and my Nan can’t look after the garden the same anymore, but so many seeds they planted still show up each year. Yesterday, I spent some time showing Leo some of the flowers that are out right now. When the sun decides to flaunt it’s rays, the colours just pop 😍

I feel very lucky to have these two wonderful ladies in my life, who enriched my childhood with colourful, creative experiences and have done so much to help me grow and thrive. This was their first Mother’s Day as Nanna and Great Nan, too, so it was lovely being able to celebrate them AND celebrate with them. I also feel very thankful to my beautiful boy for making me a mum, and of course to my husband who arguably had a bigger play in that too 😆 Mr J well and truly melted my heart with the sweetest Mother’s Day outfit for Leo.

To my fellow mums, I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day too. Thoughts with those who may have found it difficult 🧡
